IoT for intercom systems

The intercom has undergone a quiet revolution. From being an analog buzzer with a crackling speaker, today’s systems are advanced IT products. They handle video streams to residents’ phones. They manage digital keys. They integrate with booking systems for shared laundry rooms.

But the smarter the systems become, the higher the requirements for the infrastructure behind them. A modern intercom that loses network connectivity is not just “broken”. It becomes a security risk and a source of frustration for hundreds of residents.

Stability for video and audio

Streaming real time video places higher demands on the network than sending a simple temperature reading. Latency must be minimal. When a visitor rings the door, it cannot take ten seconds before the video appears in the resident’s app. By then, the visitor has already left.

With Advisera’s optimized IoT connectivity, you get prioritized traffic in the network. We make sure the bandwidth is there when it is needed. Our roaming agreements always select the network that provides the best capacity at your address, which reduces the risk of pixelated video and dropped calls.

Security: keep hackers out

A connected device at the entrance can become a pathway for cyber criminals if it is not protected properly. Many installations today use standard internet subscriptions where the device is exposed directly to public networks.

We offer solutions with static IP addresses and private APNs (Access Point Names). This means the intercom operates inside a protected tunnel, separated from the open internet. You can manage the system, update the display name, and issue new access permissions remotely without increasing the risk of intrusion.

Administrative freedom for property managers

For property managers, time is money. Traveling to a site just to reprogram an intercom for move ins and move outs is inefficient. With our Cisco based platform, the secure tunnel is always available for remote administration. You can instantly see if a device goes offline and often restart it from the office before residents even notice there was an issue.

Frequently asked questions about connected intercom systems (FAQ)

Why do we need a SIM card if the building has broadband?

Running cables from the building’s main distribution point to the entrance is often expensive and complicated, especially in older buildings. A wireless 4G/5G solution is faster to install and completely independent of the building’s other networks, which increases security through redundancy.

Can we control the door from an app?

Yes. Most modern systems are app based. However, this requires the intercom to have a constant, stable internet connection so it can send the “open” signal without delay.

What is a static IP address and why do I need it?

A static IP address is a permanent digital address for the device. It allows you to connect securely to the intercom remotely to apply settings or updates without being physically on site.
