IoT for security systems

The physical security industry is undergoing a paradigm shift. Cameras are becoming higher resolution, alarms are getting smarter, and access control is moving to the cloud. The common denominator is the need for communication. A surveillance camera that cannot send its footage to the monitoring center is effectively blind.

Traditionally, the industry has relied on fixed internet lines. But cables can be cut. And construction sites, temporary events, or remote locations rarely have fiber installed. In these scenarios, mobile IoT connectivity is the only way forward, as long as it is done right.

Cameras require bandwidth and control

Streaming HD video over mobile networks places high demands on connectivity. It is not only about speed, but about stability over time. A basic prepaid SIM might work one day and become congested the next. With Advisera’s business solutions, you get access to prioritized data.

But video also consumes data. A lot of data. The risk of bill shock is high if a camera is misconfigured and starts streaming continuously instead of only on motion. In Cisco IoT Control Center, you can see usage in real time and set hard caps that either cut the connection or warn you before the budget is exceeded.

Static IP addresses for secure access

For an alarm receiving center or technician to connect remotely to a camera or an NVR (recorder), a public static IP address is often required. This is rarely standard with consumer mobile subscriptions. We provide static IP addresses directly on the SIM.

For even stronger security, we deliver VPN tunnel solutions. This makes cameras completely invisible to the internet and accessible only through your own secure connection. It removes the risk of unauthorized access to your cameras and operations.

Monitoring the monitoring

How do you know the alarm system is working right now? With our platform, you can enable heartbeat monitoring. The system checks that the SIM is active and alive. If a device goes silent, for example due to a power outage, sabotage, or a jammer, you receive an alert immediately in the portal.

Security is about minimizing risk. We make sure connectivity does not become the weak link in your security chain.

Frequently asked questions about connected security (FAQ)

Do 4G cameras work as well as wired cameras?

With today’s 4G and 5G technology, latency and bandwidth are fully sufficient for professional surveillance, provided you have good coverage. Our SIMs automatically select the best available network for the location.

What happens during a power outage?

Because our SIMs are often used in devices with battery backup (UPS), and mobile networks have their own backup power, the alarm can continue working even when the building goes dark. This can provide higher resilience than fixed broadband, which often fails immediately during an outage.

Can I use the SIM in a trail camera or a boat alarm?

Yes. The same technology applies whether it is a construction site, a warehouse, or a boat. Our platform scales from a single device to thousands, so you get professional tools regardless of the size of your security setup.
